So almost two weeks ago I was giving the girls a bath, I got Brindley out and sat her on my lap to clean her ears. (BIG MISTAKE)..... I did one ear,then the next. Well she didn't know I was doing it when I did it and she jumped!!! The q-tip went really far in she passed out, after about 15 seconds of her laying there not doing anything at all and going purple I called 911, She finally came to screaming after 25 seconds. I was so releved until......my hand was covered in blood, yea I made her ear bleed. What kind of mother am I SERIOUSLY!!! So 5 mins go by and I have 8 perimedics russing in my house. They looked her over so calm and relaxed. They made her feel comfortable and even made her laugh. While im trying to answer a MILLION questions and balhing! I haden't had a chance to call Tom and tell him what happened so when he gets home he sees an ambulance in the driveway. That had to be the worst feeling for him. They felt that she was ok, but they wanted me to take her to get looked at of course by the doctor. So we did, he couldn't get the best look at it because of all the dried up blood. What he did see was the ear looked dull, meaning brused. He wanted us to come back in a week. Sunday night she was crying because her ear was hurting so I look at it and all of a sudden stuff starts coming out of it. GROSS! A part in the ear had burst. So monday morning we headed to the ear nose and throat speicalist! Brindley did AWESOME! She let the doctor suck all the crap out, even to the back of the ear drum which was good because thats where the tiny hole was. She has a pretty bad infection in the ear drum and a hole! So after that news I start crying! Brindley sits up and says mom its ok it was an accident! That made me crying even harder! She is so sweet! I love her more that she will ever know!
The doctor gave me ear drops to put in twice a day for a week, we go back on the 29th for a ckeck up on the hole and the infection, also for a hearing test. If the hole hasen't healed by then, he wants to do surgery!
Tom gave her a perious blessing that gave him and I comfort that things will heal great and her hearing will be just fine.
Needless to say Brindley has gotten EVERYTHING her heart desires this last week! I have learned my lesson! I will only be cleaning my girls ears will wash cloths from here on out!!

Oh my, I promise that you are not the only mom who has ever done that. I have seen it a couple of times at work!I am sure she will do great and have no problems. Just let warm water run in her ears every once in awhile and that should keep them pretty clean.
Oh!! Poor girls (both of you!!). You're not the worst mom ever. Like Brindley said, it was an accident, Mama. Just remember that. She still loves you and she knows you'd never hurt her (on purpose :) ) Give her hugs from us. And you feel better too :)
You are NOT the worst mom ever. Brindley was right, it was only an accident! You are the best mom to your little cutie pies. Her ear will get all better and everything will be a - ok :)

Aw don't be so hard on yourself!! I know what you're saying though, any Mom would feel the same way. The whole ordeal was probably harder on you than her. Glad things are better, and good luck with her next appointment!
Oh, Nicole, I am so sorry that happened. That is awful what happened but you are not an awful mom. I can tell you love your little girls so much and even Brindley knows you would never hurt her. I will keep you guys in my prayers. *BIG HUGS*

I can't believe you didn't tell me this story when I talked to this week! You are not a the 'worst mom ever'...don't worry, but you're right that a washcloth willbe better from here on out!

That sounds terrible! I am so sorry you had to go through that! Obviously it was an accident - don't beat yourself up. I've been there.
I had ahold of Addy's arm once when she tripped. I tried to help pull her up with the arm and dislocated her elbow!!! I felt awful and the screaming killed me. It was an accident, but boy it hurt to know that I did it. Everything worked out, and I know things will with Brindley. She loves you and knows you love her too. So scary though!!
Were you using a regular q-tip? I am wondering because I use "safety swabs" on my girls ears....if that is what you were using, then I am going the washcloth route too!
So sorry Nicole, don't feel too bad. I was trying to "help" Mason roll over and he dislocated his elbow because of it. I felt like such an idiot. But yeah, Q tips are evil, they shouldn't even be allowed to exist! Glad she's OK!
