Yesturday I went over to my sister in laws and she was making bread! It smelled sooo good and tasted even better! I said to myself "Why do I spend money on bread that doesn't taste good or thats good for you. So she inspired me, after Brindleys dance class today I decided that I was going to make white and wheat bread. It took me about an hour total to put together both breads. I couldn't believe how easy it was! I have to say that after they cooked they turned out pretty good. I have made the wheat bread once before but never the white. I feel like I accomplished something for myself today and also for my family! From now on I will not be buying bread! This bread is SO good for you! Brindley has already eaten 3 pieces today!
When the bread was cooking I came upstairs to finish some laundry and when I went back downstairs I started to cry because the smell of the bread cooking brought back so many memories all at once of my AMAZING grandma!! (Im crying again just saying, Im so pregant) But its true, my grnadmas house ALWAYS smelled like Homemade Bread! My Grandma Faye was the one who tought me how to make bread, rolls, pie crusts and much more. I wanted to grow up and be just like her when I was little, she was my favortie person in the whole world. She had so many amazing talents...sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, and being a very loving person to all. I really could go on and on about her.
For the last year my mother in law Maryann has been doing a Cooking Class every month to teach Laura and I how to cook more things, prepare our food storage and cook better! She reminds me so much of my grandma because of her passion she has for cooking and serving her family and friends. I just want her to know if it wasen't for her I wouldn't know what I know about cooking and food stroage. I am really excited to say that I am about 4 months away from having a full year of food for my soon to be family of 4. It has taught me so much and its also a huge comfort to know that I will always have enough for to feed my family and more. Thanks again Maryann for all you do for my family and I. We love you!!:)
Heres the wheat bread recipe:
7 cups hot water in mixer
10 and 1/2 cups fresh ground whole wheat flour (You can use wheat flour from the store if you dont have a wheat grinder)
Mix on low speed
In another bowl put 3 cups six grain flakes and
3 cups water. Put in microwave for a couple of mintues
until water is absorded. Add to mixture in mixer.
Next add 1 cup oil and 1 cup honey to mixer along with
3 Tablespoons salt. Mix for a mintue or so. Then add 4 Tablespoons
of good yeast.
Continue mixing for four or five mintues to establish the gluten in the
bread.(That's what holds it together to give it a nice texture.)
Add more fresh ground flour a cup at a time until the mixture barley starts
to pull away from the sides of the bowl. (Too muh flour will make your
bread more dry.)
Mix on medium speed another ten mintues or so. Shape into loaves and
place in greased pans. Let it rise until double.
Bake on 350 for 30-35 mintues until golden brown and hollow to the touch.
Immediately remove from pans and let cool. (If you are using a convection oven bake on 310 instead.)
Makes 7-8 loaves. Freeze loaves that you are not going to use within a day or so.
Because it has no preservatives it will only last about 3 days,
Refrigerate the portion you are not using.
Now for my family 7-8 loaves is a ton, so I would suggest halfing the recipe. I hope that this works and if you have any questions ashely feel free to call me!

I've been looking for a good wheat bread recipe! You should post yours, so I can try it out! Thanks!Do you know what you're having yet??
That is so fun that she does a cooking class for you each month, I am jealous. My mom use to make homemade bread every Saturday and I loveed it. I have made it once since I have been married and Sadie was 1 month old. I guess I better get off my lazy butt and be more productive like you.
Yea for homemade bread!! I made bread for sacrament meeting for one of my Laurel projects when I was a teenager, and it wasn't too hard. It just took a while. We still make it when my family all gets together for dinners or something. That's sweet what you said about your grandma. I didn't get to know her very well before she got so sick, and I feel like I missed out :( I'm always hearing about how great and loving she was and what a sweet grandma she was. Anyway...good job on the bread!! I'm sure she's proud!! ;)
That bread looks rrrreally yummy! Since I bought the yeast and went to the store for you can I have some ppppppppppplease? :)
I read this post last night and I was going to ask you for the recipe. I'm glad you beat me to it! I love homemade bread. We had a cooking class for enrichment a little bit ago and we made homemade bread. I totally am with you when you say you felt so accomplished!
We all have enjoyed making that bread. I believe it is the best bread recipe anywhere. Thanks so much to Mary Ann and her willingness to teach and share.
